The Day After Tomorrow

-Describe scientific basis, if any, for movies plot

The main character’s dad is a scientist who is working with the

government to come up with a soloution for climate change

-To what extent would it be reasonable to worry about this

happening?

I would say it’s pretty reasonable, climate change is kind of in the

back of everyone’s mind. We can’t expect it any time soon but I

think it could be expected -if we didn’t change our ways- sometime

in the next century.

-Invent an ‘apocalyptic’ scenario storyboard based on the science in

your course.

I will probably do this next semester if that’s okay…?

P.S.   Other movies on this subject are Walle  and  The City of Ember

November 30th

Today, I watered and measured the sprouts. They almost all have doubled in height and some more than that. I replanted seeds in the chemically fertilized soil because I found a way that might help it drain better. I hope Kayla gets better so we can finish our presentation!

Moby Dick is getting along with the other fish. He’s looking thinner and smaller everyday. And the others are picking on him, knocking him around and such. We put him in solitary confinement, but I don’t want to get my hopes up.

November 26th

We arrived this morning to find bits of green in pots 1, 2, 3, and 4. They could be weeds, but I’m not taking any chances. I watered and measured each one of them, the ones with compost in them are the biggest. The ones with chemical fertilizer (5 and 6) didn’t even sprout! Thesis correct?

November 22nd

The smallest fish, Macho, Sophia and I have decided to dub ‘Kiss of death’  because of his unique-to-the-tank black mouth. Funny stuff aside, I got Kayla to get some of the pictures for our final presentation. I am really feeling like she’s not doing very much. I hope she’s is aware that I’ll need her pictures and writing by Wednesday at the very latest, or I won’t be able to make-up the power-point in time to hand anything in.

November 20th

Today I filled out Kayla’s and my inquiry planner and layed out what I was thinking presentation wise. My job here on, is to take care of the plants and record any observations.

November 15/16th

Over the course of yesterday and today, we planted the seeds, recorded what was put in the soil and watered the plants.  However, I feel that a number of things have been left unaccounted for, for example, we planted different types of lettuce under different brand names and we only used two of many types of chemical fertilizer. So whatever our results, they will not be completely accurate. All that remains to do now, is watch.

November 14th

Today the fish got some pebbles for the bottom of their tank. Kayla brought Some compost for our inquiry but forgot the chemical fertilizer, so we are aiming to start tomorrow so that we start all the lettuce at once. We wrote all our questions and hypothesis’ on the white wall and began making charts to record any growth over time, accounting for the different variable, i.e. water, fertilizer, heat/light. Tomorrow we start business.
